KITULGALA: HILL COUNTRY TRIP

From Kandy we drove down and up some very windy roads until we reached the sticky air of the river valley of Kitulgala. Google maps took us on an exciting detour up some of the steepest and narrowest roads you can imagine, until we retreated in failure and rang the Manager to get old school directions to our next accommodation.

After a long drive we were delighted to come across a rustic version of paradise, nestled high up in a mixed tea and fruit plantation, and owned by of all people, a Norwegian who does large scale aid projects.

The next day we went white water rafting and had a great time – the kids were very excited, especially with the swim down the final rapid!
